Dr. James M. Powers - Owner
I have worked in Winder as a veterinarian for over 30 years. I am a native of Walton County and grew up on a large farm. I attended Auburn University and graduated in 1967 with an animal science degree. I then worked the family farm for 7 years until I decided to go back to school. I graduated from the University of Georgia Veterinary School in 1979 and opened the practice in Winder in July of 1979. For many years I attended large and small animals, but now I am exclusively small animals.
I have always had pets of all kinds but I suppose I tend to favor Labrador Retrievers. Having a big dog as a companion and taking him every where I go is like always having your best friend with you. Knowing how it feels to be attached to a pet I understand that treating your pet is like treating a family member and I want to treat everyone the way I would want me and my pet to be treated.
Dr. Sabine Capeheart
A native of Germany, I moved to the United States in 1994, following my husband Shane who is from Georgia (those Georgia boys will sweep you off your feet!). Veterinary medicine is my second career and I feel that it is my calling. I finished my undergraduate studies at the University of North Georgia in 2004 with a B.S. in biology. I studied veterinary medicine at the University of Georgia and graduated in 2009. Since then I have been working in private practice and started working for Barrow Veterinary Hospital in 2015 as a relief veterinarian. My special interests are exotic animals/wildlife and emergency medicine.
I live in Winder with my husband Shane and our dogs Sophie, Stanley, and Copper, and our cats Mozart and Piefke. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, jeeping, playing guitar, and swimming.
